As a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), I can testify that keeping the Sabbath is more than honoring the Sabbatical Law. It is more than just keeping the 4th commandment of the Bible, and it is more than being an SDA.
As far as one has a family and loves it, who wouldn't want spend time with the family. Perhaps keeping the Sundays free for many. I reckon, as christian, we love our God and would want to spend time with Him too. What if we were to look at it from the other perspective? Say, God loves us and wants to spend time with us too. He obviously wants us to also take a break from the hectic world. So, why is keeping one day off to go to church so difficult? You ask, why keep the Sabbath, and why should it be a Saturday and not a Sunday?
There is far too many interesting facts for me to show why we choose to worship on the Saturday. It will take me some time to finish all these. So, this would come in a few post.
The Sabbath day falls on the 7th day of the week. Many assume or in fact, strongly believe that the 7th day of the week is Sunday. However, I beg to differ. The 7th day of the week.
1. Language.
We look into 3 ancient languages.
In Greek, the names of the days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Δευτέρα, Τρίτη, Τετάρτη, and Πέμπτη) which means "second", "third", "fourth", and "fifth", respectively. This suggests that Sunday was once counted as Πρώτη, that is, "first".
In Portuguese, Monday is segunda-feira, which means "second day", also showing Sunday (domingo) to be counted as the first
day.
In Latin,"feria secunda" (refers to the 2nd day of the week) is used for Monday.
Thus, the Saturday is the 7th day.
Stay Tuned.
